Get Started
Thank you for your interest in working with us! There are a number of ways you can get involved with Built Green and enjoy the benefits of being part of our Built Green community.
1. Become a Member
As a member, you’re part of a progressive community committed to sustainable building practices, producing smarter, more responsible and healthier homes that benefit both the environment and homeowners. All members are required to meet a set of membership criteria.
2. Complete Your Training
For new renovators and single family builders, BUILT GREEN® Program Fundamentals is a required, self-guided online course. It covers program navigation, administrative and technical requirements, and resources to support building BUILT GREEN® homes. The course takes up to three hours and earns three CPD points through BC Housing, as well as is recognized through Professional Home Builders toward Master Builder credits. And, as builders must complete training every two years, we offer numerous other online courses for ongoing learning.
3. Hire Your Energy Advisor / BUILT GREEN® Verifier
4. Complete Your Checklist
Our checklist guides the builder/renovator/restorer through the program’s eight key sections of sustainability, offering options on green features to integrate into their projects. There are five levels of achievement—Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Net Zero Energy+—each requiring an incremental increase in energy performance and overall points in the other seven checklist sections. If you require assistance completing your checklist we are here to help.
Our programs include Single Family, MURBs, [Single Family] Renovations, High Density (including multi-storey residential tower and mixed-use), High Density Renovations (including heritage and repurposed conversions), Communities, as well as pilots in Restorations, Small- and Medium Commercial and Schools.
5. Enrol Your Project for Certification
Once a member, you will receive login credentials to the BUILT GREEN® portal, where you can enrol new projects and access past projects and marketing tools. This is where your project certification is processed once we have your final checklist and energy documents. We can walk you through the enrolment process and help you enrol your project.
6. Undergo Third-Party Certification
With third-party certification, builders have the advantage of proving their sustainable building claims and peace of mind in knowing Built Green Canada stands by their certification through its quality assurance processes, including onsite verifications and audits conducted by Energy Advisors and Engineers, alongside an independent BUILT GREEN® Verifier depending on the project type.
7. Showcase Your Certification
Once you receive your certification label for your Single Family project, be sure to affix this to the home’s electrical panel, or for High Density builds, install your plaque in the building lobby.
Certification recognizes the authenticity of a project, offering third-party verification of the build's energy efficiency and green features. Show off your label—in the home and showhomes, in your advertising, on social media and through your sales team and realtors. Plus, consider investing in a metal plaque that you can integrate on the outside of the home, on the sidewalk, or in showhomes.
Builder Support
We offer support and guidance throughout the certification process. This includes technical support, such as helping you complete your checklist and enrol your projects, advisory support by connecting you with industry professionals like licensed energy advisors, engineers and consultants, as well as training and educational support through our online courses, webinars and more. If you have any questions, please contact us.
