In 2005 Jayman MasterBUILT™ committed to building 100% their homes in Calgary and Edmonton Built Green™ Gold. This will save over 3000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions this year alone. The Alberta Ecotrust Ecohome, built by Jayman, achieved 85 on the EnerGuide for New Houses scale, is Built Green™ Gold and R-2000 certified.
Avalon Master Builder has committed to building 100% their homes in Calgary and Red Deer a minimum Built Green™ Bronze. In July 2005 they announced the construction of a Net Zero energy demonstration home and will be building one every two years.
Sterling Homes, Drake Landing Solar Community in Okotoks: 52 homes at Built Green™ Gold and R-2000. The innovative solar heating system will use solar panels to collect thermal energy, store it in a common storage area under the park and then deliver it to the homes via hot water through underground insulated pipes. Each home will save 4.5 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.
On August 15th, 2005 the City of Lethbridge announced that all homes in their new community of SunRidge will be a minimum Built Green™ Bronze. They are the first Canadian municipality to develop a complete Built Green™ neighbourhood. Phase II (being built first) consists of 99 units and Phase I consists of 125 units, for a total of 224 Single Family Units. There will also be 2 Multi-Family Sites (one site can handle max. 72 units and the other can handle max. 58 units) and 1 Commercial Site (over 65 acres). All sites/buildings will have energy efficient components including the commercial.
In September 2005 Melcor announced that Phase 5 of their Ironstone development in Red Deer will require all homes to be a minimum Built Green™ Bronze. There will be 131 single family homes and 36 Duplex homes, totaling 167 units in this phase of development.
Morningstar Homes Ltd. and the Township of Langley are developing the first official Built Green™ Community; the Yorkson Willoughby Neighbourhood. In addition to the first project in the Yorkson Willoughby Neighbourhood (the 55 lots in Yorkson Village meeting a minimum Built Green™ Gold level) the Neighbourhood Community Plan also includes, Stormwater Management and Siltation Control, Aquifer Re-charge and Conservation, Fish Habitat Creation, as well as a comprehensive program to control erosion and sediment concerns during construction.
Assured Developments Ltd. is developing the first official Built Green™ Stacked Multi-Family Pilot Project; Chorus Park. The 42 units will achieve a Built Green™ Silver rating and offer features such as granite or concrete countertops, concrete fireplace, cork flooring, wool carpet, recycled underpad and rubber flooring.
Strathcona County is pleased to introduce a new building permit fee rebate program for homebuilders who achieve R-2000 or Built Green™ certification. Strathcona County is committed to a 'green' future and providing rebates to builders who take the steps and meet 'green' certification is a tangible way Strathcona County can support this builder initiative. The City of Calgary has become the first major city in Canada to offer incentives to builders who use sustainable building practices. As of January 1, 2007 the City of Calgary will offer rebates of 10%, 20% or 30% respectively for homes built to bronze, silver and gold standards. With an average building permit value of $1,600 per home, this represents average rebate amounts of $160, $320 or $480 per home going back to the builder, which easily offsets their initial costs associated with joining the Built Green™ Program. Kanas Holdings Corporation has labelled the first Built Green Platinum home. With an EnerGuide rating of 88 this home exemplifies the commitment that our builders have to excellence and continuing to achieve outstanding environmental results.
In 2008, Perry Built Homes Inc. announced its commitment to building all homes to either Built Green Gold or R2000 standards. The Perry organization has been a certified R2000 builder since 1992.
