What is the Built Green™ Program?
 
The Built Green™ Program is a voluntary program, owned and managed by Built Green Canada that uses buyer demand, market education and builder training to encourage builders to build homes that have better:
 
• Energy Efficiency
• Indoor Air Quality
• Resource Use (including Waste Management)
• Overall Environmental Impact

 
What is the Built Green™ Checklist?
 
The Checklist (available at our front page) is a list of "green" criteria. It includes an energy efficiency requirement, and a menu of options in categories, addressing a range of "green" items from which the builder can select to meet the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum achievement levels.
 
Built Green Canada Members have the opportunity to submit requests for changes (additions, deletions, point value, etc.) to the Built Green™ Checklist using the Checklist Change Request Form. The Checklist and the Checklist change requests are reviewed annually.  The revised checklist is effective January 1 of each year.
 
NOTE: When opening the Built Green™ Checklist, if you receive an error message that the macros are disabled, you must change your security level. From the Excel menu bar, select “Tools - Macro - Security” and change the security level to “medium”. When opening the checklist again, click on “Enable Macros”.

 
Who runs Built Green Canada?
 
Built Green Canada is owned and managed by  the Board of Directors and an Executive Officer.

 
What is EnerGuide for New Houses and how does it apply to the Built Green™ Program?
 
EnerGuide for New Houses (EGNH), is a Natural Resources Canada initiative and is the mandatory energy efficiency component of the Built Green™ Checklist.

 
What are the four Built Green™ achievement levels?
 
Bronze is minimum, Silver is the intermediate, Gold is the next level and Platinum is the highest level of achievement.

 
Where does Energy Star fit in?
 
Energy Star is an international symbol for energy efficiency that will help you quickly identify products that are the most energy efficient.
