The Construction Department Environmental Solutions Team wrote the feasibility study for the Built Green™ program and a 12-step program development template. They have also provided feasibility studies to CMHC on “New Home Energy Design and Cost-Benefit Optimization Software Tool” and “Green Mortgage Overview: Towards an Implementation Plan”. They played a pivotal role in the energy modeling of the Alberta Ecotrust Ecohome, a Calgary demonstration project intended to show consumers that a Built Green™ Gold and R-2000 home can be built for little more than a conventional new house.
 
Offers a 10% CMHC mortgage loan insurance premium refund when purchasing an energy efficient home or making energy-saving renovations. You could also have the added flexibility of a longer amortization (the period of time required to repay your mortgage) from 25 years to a maximum of 35 years, significantly reducing your monthly payments.
 
Offers a 10% premium refund on Genworth-insured mortgages to home buyers purchasing an energy efficient home or refinancing an existing home to make energy-saving renovations. It is made available on loans with up to 35-year amortization periods at standard mortgage insurance premium rates.
 
CMHC recently launched the Net Zero Energy Healthy Housing national competition.
